How do I know if my HV Battery is failing (or has failed)?
You may notice less power when driving up a hill or attempting to accelerate.
You may see the battery status change more dramatically than normal on the “Energy Screen”. The battery graphic may change quickly between one bar and eight bars in just a few seconds.
Overheating is one common cause of failure for HV batteries. The battery’s cooling fan may be running and frequently at higher speeds to try to keep the battery cool. This should be a very obvious noise located next to the rear passenger seat in the Prius and behind the rear seats in the Camry
When the HV Battery does fail you will see a number of warning lights on the dashboard and center display. A large Red Triangle with a ! in the center will appear. Usually this is accompanied by the VSC, ABS, and Check Engine Yellow Lights. The center display may also show a red car with ! over it.
If these lights appear, you should be able to take your car to your favorite local mechanic or an Auto Parts Store (such as O’Reillys, AutoZone, or Advanced Auto Parts). They can read the error codes for free (you should write them all down). If these lights appear, you should be able to take your car to your favorite local mechanic or an Auto Parts Store (such as O’Reillys, AutoZone, or Advanced Auto Parts). Here are some common diagnostic codes that are specific to the HV battery:
POA7F, P0A80, POAA6, P3000, P3011 – P3024

What is a reconditioned battery?
The first step in reconditioning is complete disassembly and cleaning all the components thoroughly. Then the pack is tested and the failed modules are replaced with good used modules. The pack is discharged and then recharged a number of times until the pack approaches original design capacity. The pack stack is then reordered to ensure that each module pair is as close to the others as possible. This practice improves the battery life. Then the battery is reassembled and installed in a hybrid vehicle to test in operation. Once the testing is completed the battery is placed in inventory for our customers. We want our customers to have the very best quality battery so they can get many more years of reliable operation from their Hybrid vehicles.
Why did my original HV battery fail?
In our experience, overheating is a primary cause of failure. The modules in the middle of the pack usually run hotter than the ones on the ends so they are often the modules that fail first. Since the battery modules are all connected in series the total pack is only as good as the weakest module. Battery modules also tend to develop a memory similar to other battery driven electronics and eventually these memories can limit the amount the module recharges. Age and miles driven are two other reasons why these batteries fail.
Why not buy a battery from the Toyota Dealership?
Hybrid Miracle provides reconditioned batteries for about 40% the cost of a new battery from Toyota. Also, the new battery from Toyota comes with a 1 year or 25,000 mile full warranty. Hybrid Miracle offers a 24 month full replacement warranty (parts and labor included).
